Which system suits your home?
The type of unit decides comfort, cost and how much building work is involved. These four systems cover almost every home in Luxembourg.
Multi-split
Several indoor units on a single outdoor unit. Each room is controlled separately, with only one box on the façade.
Floor and cassette units
Low on the wall or in a suspended ceiling. Discreet, even air distribution, ideal where wall space is tight.
Ducted systems
Completely hidden in the ceiling void, with only slim grilles on show. Needs space and planning.
One system, two seasons
Every modern split system is technically an air-to-air heat pump. In summer it moves heat outdoors; in winter it reverses the cycle and pulls heat out of the outside air, even below freezing.
Depending on the outdoor temperature, one kilowatt-hour of electricity becomes three to five kilowatt-hours of heat. In spring and autumn that is often cheaper than gas or oil heating, and it pairs perfectly with a solar PV system.

Why a licensed company does the work
Air conditioners contain fluorinated refrigerants. In the EU, anyone who charges, tests or recovers them needs a personal certificate under the F-Gas Regulation. A poorly flared connection leaks, loses capacity and destroys the compressor.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a permit for air conditioning in Luxembourg?
For a detached house a split system normally needs no permit. Exceptions apply to protected buildings and to communes with rules on façade installations or noise. In a condominium or rented flat you need the owners' consent, because the outdoor unit sits on shared façade. We clarify this with you before installation.
How loud is the outdoor unit for the neighbours?
Current units sit at roughly 45 to 52 dB(A) at one metre in night mode, comparable to a quiet fridge a few metres away. Placement matters most: not under a neighbour's bedroom window, away from reflecting walls and on anti-vibration mounts.
What does it cost to run in summer?
A 2.5 kW unit draws 0.4 to 0.9 kW in real use. Six hours a day on hot days works out at roughly €0.60 to €1.40 per day, which for a Luxembourg summer usually means €40 to €90 per room.
How soon can it be installed?
Outside heatwaves the wait is usually two to four weeks. From June to August it rises sharply. Enquiring in spring gets you the better slot and often the better price.
